Wine Dinner
January 10th 2009 at Into the Med

Wines from Torbreck in the Barossa Valley, South Australia
Mr. David Powell, Managing Director and Chief Winemaker of Torbreck Vintners will lead guests through the this special winemakers dinner

Torbreck Vintners was founded by David Powell in 1994. Torbreck use fruit from the very best vineyards in the Barossa Valley, which is home to some of the most precious old vines in the world. The Torbreck endeavour is based around the classic Barossa Valley varietals of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, and a love for the wines of France's Rhone Valley. Torbreck doesn't only make red wines though, they have Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne planted on the winery block which have been blended to make a white wine for the last 2 years. In July 2002, the historic Hillside property was acquired by Torbreck. Situated in Lyndoch, it is one of the original Barossa properties. Vast and picturesque, it contains some magnificent old and ancient vineyards that will further the source of premium quality fruit. The Hillside property contains a wonderful native ecosystem that supports a myriad of flora and fauna. David hopes to turn it into a nature reserve in the future that will be open to visits.
Guests of this highly exclusive, ‘once in a lifetime’ winemaker dinner (seats are limited) will be able to sample outstanding wines from this ‘Ueber-Vineyard’ in the Barossa Valley. The Torbreck wines will be paired and matched perfectly with extraordinary dishes crafted by young Fredrik Larsson, Chef de Cuisine, who himself has vast experience from various stints at Michelin starred restaurants. Wine service is lead by Monika Bielka-Vescovi, Sommelier.

Torbreck wines are represented on all major wine lists in the finest restaurants all over the world. Diners will sample a variety of Torbreck wines, all the way to the ‘crown jewel’, RunRig, which has won the highest accolades from wine critics such as James Halliday. It can be said that the Torbreck portfolio offers the best of both worlds, old and new. David Powell is a passionate believer in the Barossa Valley and its viticultural heritage. His approach to grapegrowing and winemaking melds the region’s terroir with its traditional winemaking practises. In doing so, he has achieved a style that fuses his love for the Barossa with his admiration for the Northern and Southern Rhône valleys.
