PlayPumps.co.za was chosen of its ability to provide clean water in a fun and effective way. The PlayPump® system is a roundabout that drives conventional borehole pumps while providing entertainment for children. As the children play, water is pumped up to a storage tank, which distributes the water by gravity when needed. The water is tested and certified for human consumption. The storage tank also works as a billboard to provide education about clean water, HIV, Malaria as well as revenue for maintenance of the system.
Under is a list of projects completed. To date, 27,295 students, teachers and local people have received clean drinking water and 4 PlayPumps® system have been installed.
