Thirst-Aid.org was chosen because of its ability to implement clean water projects effectively in areas challenging for other organisations to do. Through their unique ceramic water filters they are able to provide safe clean drinking water. In addition, they focus on hygiene education, health literature, and academic supplies which are lacking in Myanmar. Primary focus is monasteries, nunneries, orphanages and schools as it reaches many people.
Under is a list of projects completed. To date, 33,940 people have received clean drinking water and 2,501 ceramic water filters have been distributed.

About Thirst-Aid
Thirst-Aid’s primary goal is to advocate for an Education First approach to safe-water interventions. To fill the knowledge gap that exists between donors, NGO’s, village leaders, governments, and populations in need, Thirst-Aid promotes a comprehensive program that involves local communities in helping to design household water solutions for their particular water needs and empowers community leaders to help implement the programs. Thirst-Aid also promotes and facilitates profit for a purpose – developing partnerships between local organizations, villagers, business leaders, and government agencies to create local enterprises that can produce safe-water technologies with a public health goal.
- Operates in Myanmar
- Have established 5 Ceramic Water Filter (CWF) factories in Myanmar, which employs 143 people – 3 other factories established privately
- Works with other NGOs such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and Red Cross to fund the purchase and distribution of CWFs. Thirst-Aid provides quality control, education templates and training for these interventions
- Develops Local Partnerships and Education Programs
- Regularly contributes 100 to 200 CWF units to monasteries, churches, mosques, monastic schools, and orphanages along with a comprehensive hygiene education program
- Is developing a Water Vendor Network that will utilize Myanmar’s traditional water vendors to help bring purified water to some of the country’s poorest residents. By providing water vendors with more hygienic carts and teaching them how to disinfect raw water by using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), thousands of Myanmar’s poorest will now have affordable access to safer water every day
- Is developing a social marketing program to inspire the purchase of ceramic water filters in the private sector through increased awareness of waterborne illnesses and improved hygiene behavior
- In Myanmar, 16 million people rely on ponds, lakes and rivers as drinking water, hence ceramic water filters are necessary to make it safe
