Enhancing environmental awareness by sustainable tourism approaches.
Our resort supports the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. The Kingfisher River Trip is one of our eco activities. We promote our guests to enjoy the virgin beauty of the local scenery aboard the "Kingfisher", Thailand's first and to date only Electrically Propelled Thai Long Boat. With zero noise and air pollution and operating in complete silence, guests witness the magnificent flora and fauna of the Pak Num Pran and Pran Buri areas.
Khao Sam Roi Yod National Park, Pranburi Forest Park located in Klongkao-Klongkob National Reserve Forest, Pala-U Waterfall along a creek stretching to the Burmese border, and Kaeng Krachan National Park are all places where we introduce eco-tourism in addition to raising guest awareness by learning and experiencing nature.
Cultural Awareness
Traditional Thai ceremonies such as Song Kran Day - the Thai New Year Celebration, and Loy Kra Thong Day, are celebrated and the nations culture is highlighted, allowing guests to learn Thai traditions.
How guests can contribute efforts?
The 'Little Green Book' or Green Compendium is placed in guest's room as another tool to deliver our environmental efforts and information guests.
Guests are invited to cocktail evenings where they can discuss environmental and social issues with the social and environment officer. Our social and environmental scope of work includes particular activities involving local community. There is one example of how guests have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
Butler, GROs (Guest Relation Officer) and Room Attendants carry messages direct to our guests. For example, when we send a letter about mangrove forest plantation activity conducted nearby the resort. This is one way we bring opportunity to guests to contribute their support and attend resort's conservation projects.
One area where guests can help is by reducing the amount of laundry in order to save water and detergent usage. Guests are asked to leave the towels hanging if they would like to use them again, and leave them on the floor if they would like them replaced. With the bed sheets, guests are asked leave the bronze palm tree on the bed, so that we know they are happy to use the same sheets the following day.
Guests are encouraged to make their contributions by donation. A donation letter lists various organizations and asks guest for their support to help better the quality of life of people who are less fortunate than others and to help improve the environment.
Capacity Development Programme
Human resources are an important part of the education and implementation of policies and procedures. Understanding, training and then changing perceptions and practices requires a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, every host undertakes the Six Senses Mandatory Environmental Awareness training which includes the Green Module - a general introduction to the importance of environmental conscience. Generally, hosts must be trained how to deal with waste separation, composting, water saving and energy saving. In addition, social and environmental information is posted on the notice boards in the staff canteen.
