Six Senses Yao Noi's Social and Environmental Management Programme is based around Six Senses Holistic Environmental Management Programme. Some of the environmental efforts are listed below:
Energy Efficiency
Producing energy usually creates pollution and is the biggest cause of global warming. At Six Senses Yao Noi we have taken several steps to reduce our energy usage and to use renewable energy:
Quantum heat recovery for hot water
Medium Voltage (6,6kV) underground electrical cables
Energy efficient light bulbs
Overhanging roofs creating shade for windows
Natural ventilation
Passive cooling of villas
Electrical buggies
Four stroke engine speedboats
Water Conservation
Water consumption is quite a concern on Yao Noi Island despite a lot of annual rainfall. Furthermore, waste water is a concern in that it may cause pollution particularly to the marine life. At Six Senses Yao Noi we are taking several measures to tackle these challenges:
Self-sufficient water supply through own reservoir
Production of own drinking water
Waste water treatment plant
Water saving "push" valves, shower heads and low flush toilet systems
Waste Management
Waste, garbage, trash, rubbish or whatever you like to call it is a huge source and cause of environmental degradation. Examples include litter illegally dumped/dropped, which washes up on beaches all over the world and which we see lying around, or litter that is legally disposed of in landfill sites, often in pristine areas, destroying them forever. At Six Senses Yao Noi we are actively looking for ways to reduce the waste generated and dispose of it properly:
Waste separation and recycling
Compacting of waste
Shredding of garden waste
Composting facility
Reuse of the reverse side of printed paper
Engine oil reused by treating wood
Recycled wood used
Driftwood used for decoration
In-room torches with rechargeable batteries
Suppliers asked to reduce packaging
Nature Conservation
Six Senses Yao Noi is surrounded by beautiful marine life, while the island itself is also home to numerous animal and plant species. Six Senses Yao Noi itself has been planted in order to try and re-generate a tropical flora as it would have been if left untouched:
Local plants and fruit trees used
Garden planted to give a natural look as well as shading from sun and noise
Herbal and Vegetable Garden
Protecting and rejuvenating mangrove forest
Villa roofs constructed of sago palm leaf thatching
