Six Senses Resorts & Spas
Update on the Operational Status of our Resorts & Spas

Six Senses join with our friends, colleagues and partners in expressing our horror concerning the recent Indian Ocean tsunami, and extend our heartfelt sentiments and condolences to all those who were affected.

Three properties operated by Six Senses Resorts & Spas are located within this region, and we are very grateful to say that all were comparatively unaffected.

The three properties affected were:

Soneva Fushi Resort & Six Senses Spa - Maldives

Six villas on the south-east side of the island suffered some superficial damage which has been repaired. There were no injuries to either guests or hosts.

The resort is fully operational and welcoming guests. The seaplane service from Male' International Airport resumed service two days after the event.

Soneva Fushi Resort

Soneva Gili Resort & Six Senses Spa - Maldives

Soneva Gili suffered damage to several sections of walkways connecting the over-water villas, some villas and furnishings. There was some beach erosion and water swept through the host's village. There were no serious injuries to guests or hosts.

For security reasons, plus the temporary suspension of water and electricity, guests were relocated to hotels and guesthouses in Male' and to neighboring unaffected resorts.

Soneva Gili Resort

Soneva Gili remains closed during repairs and restoration of the beach. A re-opening date will be advised as soon as we are certain that guests and hosts can be accommodated with full comfort and safety, and the operation will continue to be environmentally secure.

Evason Phuket Resort & Six Senses Spa - Phuket, Thailand

The only physical damage to the resort was to the dive shop and the jetty. The resort suffered no impact and is fully operational. There were no casualties on the property to either guests or hosts.

Transfers to the beach club at Bon Island commenced on 29 December from a temporary pontoon jetty, and all facilities on Bon Island are also fully operational.

Whilst our resorts were relatively unscathed, the communities in which we operate and other fellow hoteliers suffered much more. We are making funds from the social responsibility budget of each property available to assist and support local community rebuilding efforts. Our management and hosts are very actively involved in community assistance, details of which are included in the individual resort updates. Donations may be forwarded directly to each property at which special bank accounts have been established for these community projects. (See links above).

We urge all people that were intending to visit our resorts, and all other resorts that are fully operational and away from devastated areas, to proceed with their plans, as it is paramount that their support to staff and the communities in which the resorts are located, continues.
