A Surfing Celebration
International Surfers Day
On June 21, Six Senses Laamu is celebrating International Surfers Day. This day is a celebration of surfing around the world and also an opportunity to pay homage to our oceans for providing this unique experience to all surfers.
Ocean Dimensions will be hosting an "Introduction to Surfing" workshop on June 21 at the water sports center, giving the opportunity to no- surfer guests to participate and learn the surfing basics. Both Six Senses Laamu and Ocean Dimensions have actively supported the community of the local island, Maamendhoo, and the island's school. As part of this ongoing program, we have invited the pupils from the local school to be part of this day. They will be joining our surfers at the ‘Surfer Dudes’ barbecue on the beach - a small surfer’s get together, before paddling out to a nearby island. Once there, our surfers will have a small ceremony with a moment of silence and then a distribution of flower petals on the waves as a tribute to our oceans. In the afternoon, an educational surfing movie will be projected in the diving center, for the school children and our guests to enjoy while learning.
