Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center
Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Panda Breeding Research Center has been created and imitates the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. It cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals within an area of 92 acres, 96% of which is vegetation.
Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there throughout the year. Verdant bamboo, bright flowers, fresh air, a natural hill scene and a beautiful created view are merged ingeniously at the base.
Dujiangyan Irrigation System
Dujiangyan is the oldest and only surviving no-dam irrigation system in the world, constructed in 256 BC and a wonder in the development of Chinese science.
The project consists of three important parts, namely Yuzui, Feishayan and Baopingkou, scientifically designed to automatically control the water flow of the rivers from the mountains to the plains throughout the year.
Jiezi Old Town
The location has the 'mountains and water' combination that is so appreciated in China, and makes a fascinating day trip outside the city where you can take in a little nature and a little history all in the same visit.
There is an easy walking trail beside the river that will take you along the mountainside and over a couple of bridges. The main historic site is an old temple. There are several other minor structures such as the 5-layer historic Wastepaper Library tower, the Yulong Bridge, and the Ancient Weijiang Dock, which give a flavor of what local life was like in times past.
The Shangqing Palace
The Shangqing Palace is situated on the peak, at an elevation of 1,600 meters. The Shangqing Palace was first built in the Jin Dynasty (265-420), with the existing temple having been built during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty.
In addition to the precious woodcut edition of Dao De Jing, there are two wells in the palace; one is called Mandarin-Duck Well, the other Fairy Magu Pond. It is the best place to appreciate the three famous scene of Qing Cheng Mountain – Sun Rising, Cloud Sea, and Holy Lights
