Environmental & Social Sustainability Policy

As part of Six Senses, Soneva Gili is committed to reducing the negative environmental impacts of its operation and promote social responsibility in the surrounding communities and elsewhere. We are committed to sustainable development, specifically to the protection and regeneration of both the environment and communities in which we operate. Through the development and implementation of our Holistic Environmental Management Programme we are committed to monitoring and continually improving our sustainability.

Soneva Gili has identified a team of key individuals to drive our Holistic Environmental Management Programme and Social & Environmental Responsibility Fund (S.E.R.F) and has established the following objectives to be met during the operation:

To achieve this mission we have set aside the following objectives for the year 2010:
  • Reduce emissions of green house gases by increasing energy efficiency in the resort and application of innovative and technological opportunities.
  • Preserve island eco systems, minimize pollution and resource consumption and manage waste through responsible purchasing policies and management programs.
  • Actively work with the local communities to help advance quality of life in nearby islands by ways of sharing knowledge and resources and through programs respecting and preserving local culture and heritage.
  • Continuously record and measure key sustainability indicators while achieving and maintaining industry baseline standards and work towards Green Globe Certificate Level.
  • Increasing awareness of our hosts, guests and business partners on sustainable tourism and work towards creating a conscious lifestyle within the resort through training and awareness programs.
  • To comply with the local and national legislation and ensure an environmentally responsible operation.
In Soneva Gili, policies to achieve sustainability are managed by a dedicated Social and Environmental Manager, ensuring that the foot prints of our operations are carefully managed, while identifying environmental issues and giving recommendations, and recording environmental performances.

The General Manager of Soneva Gili by Six Senses oversees the implementation and adherence of the above polices. All hosts are committed to work towards achieving and maintaining social and environmental sustainability and are encouraged to promote the resort’s commitment to a greater sustainability.
