Can’t get to a spa? Visiting Practitioner Caroline Alboneti shares her favorite ways to massage our faces to smooth lines, relax tense muscles and reinvigorate our spirit.
Start with your favorite face oil or massage and apply it on the neck and then work your way up to your forehead. Don’t rub it in since you’ll be using the oil to massage your face.
Start your face massage with circles around your neck. Move slowly and really feel your hands on your neck and face. Then move your way up to your chin and massage your jaw line. For the first time, do it in front of the mirror so you can see what you’re doing with your hands. After the chin, move up to your cheeks and use your entire hand to massage in circles and open the planes of your face. A big part of this is to use a circular movement whether you’re working your way around the nose or eyes. When you’re massaging around the eyes, don’t apply pressure. It should feel nice and relaxing.
Finish up by using both hands to massage the entire face. Look at yourself in the mirror and give yourself a big smile.
As the days grow shorter here in the Northern Hemisphere and we head into autumn, this is the time of the year when nature comes alive with those deep and rich tones of color. These nourishing and warm autumn colors tell us, just like the tree that’s shedding its leaves, that it’s time let out a deep sigh for all the hard work of spring and summer and time to let go of what is no longer needed, and to prepare to slow down and go inwards.
