NFTs shocked the art world when they sold for eye-watering prices in 2021. Seemingly out of nowhere, the total value of the NFT market reached USD 17 billion, and made up 16 percent of the total global art market last year. Prices have since come down, but the technology's potential to sustain an entire generation of digital artists and digital art collectors remains.
Sam Gaskin, Executive Editor at global art platform Ocula, explains what NFTs are, why they're so popular, and where they could be heading next. He'll include examples of some of the most visually interesting and conceptually rich NFT projects, demonstrating ways in which their value might just warrant those outlandish prices.
