Family delights in Singapore

April 17, 2019 - Discover Singapore through fresh eyes in a district that is steeped in culture and heritage with our Family Summer Escape package at Six Senses Maxwell.

From old architecture to new surprises, explore the diversity of the district as you wander through colorful Tanjong Pagar, Duxton Hill and Chinatown.

Taste iconic local flavors in markets as old as time. The Maxwell Food Center is just across the road from Six Senses Maxwell and is one of the most famous hawker centers in Singapore. Many are second- and third-generation owners who inherited their parents’ businesses and traditional recipes.

Learn some of the secrets behind the traditional art of tea drinking. Charlene Low and her father Vincent at nearby Yixing Xuan Teahouse are masters in the art of tea brewing. They reveal the fascinating history of tea, from where the first tea leaf was grown to how different varieties can be distinguished from the leaves, branches, aromas and colors.

The best way to uncover Singapore’s green landmarks is to take a leisurely stroll. You may wish to download GPSmyCity: Walks in 1K+ Cities from the App Store or Google Play. The app offers 17 expertly designed self-guided walking tours to explore Singapore on foot. What’s more, it works offline with no data plan needed when traveling abroad.

While wandering around, make sure you look up. The government has established a policy to earmark heritage trees all around the island city state. We offer our guests a complimentary yoga session twice a week at the urban park behind sister hotel Six Senses Duxton in the shade of a heritage angsana tree. The wide-spreading crown provides a welcoming shelter for the singing bowl meditation at the end of each blissful yoga session conducted by Sue Sze, our community partner.

All that exploring is thirsty work, so unwind with cocktails infused with fresh herbs grown on our rooftop garden at Six Senses Maxwell (we recommend our signature Rose Bellini in the Rose Lounge & Bar). The hotel is also home to a traditional ice-cream tricycle. Guests can enjoy complimentary Singaporean ice-cream sandwiches from 1:00 to 5:00 pm each day, with flavors ranging from chocolate or cucumber to more unique twists such as sweet corn and red bean. And in case you were wondering, the ice-cream tricycle uses a solar-powered generator for the refrigerator.

Tummies satisfied, children will also enjoy arts and crafts activities such as origami and soap making. Escape with your family and discover the culture, customs, food and friendliness of this fascinating locality.

Check out our Family Summer Escape package, available now at Six Senses Maxwell.
