Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award

In the meantime, we were recently honored as a group for our dedication to sustainability, conservation and ethical environmental practices. Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Awards spotlight 30 individuals, companies and organizations that proactively protect communities and environments and inspire industry colleagues and travelers to do their part.

“We’re excited to be included in this distinguished group of changemakers,” said Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses. “I’m one of those people who believe the events of the past year have made us more thoughtful about what we are doing and why, and how we impact our physical world and those around us. I am fortunate to have found a professional path that is meaningful personally, and a company that is proactive and engaged in sustainability as an integral part of its DNA. I work with an extraordinary leadership team of experts who are passionate about what they do and who feel exactly the same way.”

As guests at our hotels and resorts, you actively contribute each time you stay with us through our Sustainability Fund. The money from guestroom revenues, soft toy sales and house-bottled water sales is used by each property locally in a way that supports equal access to an improved quality of life for all. It also helps restore habitats and wildlife populations. In 2019, we carried out USD 626,641 in sponsored projects and even though 2020 was a year like no other, our sustainability efforts stayed front and center at each resort, leading to this latest honor.

2020 Impacts outside the property

We were delighted that in a challenging year, so many of our local community members, hosts and their families supported positive impact events (17,139 participants, with an extra 4,317 guests helping out). We installed water filters to provide access to clean drinking water and sanitation (benefiting 111,385 people), and supported healthcare initiatives including the provision of medical equipment (benefiting 536,240 people).

In terms of the environment, our figures show how we’re protecting or restoring habitat (260,555 square meters – as much as 36 soccer pitches), planting coral (820 fragments), and protecting turtle eggs (2,792 hatchlings). And we’re passing the legacy on to younger generations, with 4,195 students given access to education and skills training.

2020 Impacts inside the property

We track a whole range of positive impacts including the renewable electricity generated (370,788 kWh – or enough to power 15 World Cup soccer matches) to glass bottles of Six Senses water (617,102), organic eggs eaten (88,724), and organic vegetables produced (33,459 kg – as heavy as 51 Six Senses Zighy Bay camels)!

We also ramped up our efforts to protect and save 10 endangered and critically endangered species, from the sea (green and hawksbill turtles, ornate eagle rays, gray reef sharks, whale sharks, giant guitarfish and Napoleon wrasses) to the land (Fijian crested iguanas and black shanked douc langurs) to the skies (Bali starlings).

Relief efforts

In the past year, our properties were very supportive of local efforts to relieve the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, for example by donating food (2,146 kg), and supplies (benefiting 3,515 people), and volunteering their time (1,500 hours and counting).
