Into Bodrum

Activities & Experiences

    • It feels a bit like exploring your own sunken treasure trove! With 14 departments and artifacts dating back 3,500 years, the museum is a must for anyone with an interest in Ottoman, Crusader, Greek, Roman and Maritime history.

    • The castle was constructed by the Knights of Rhodes in the 15th century during the crusades of the Middle Ages, and it was given the name The Castle of St. Petrus, or Petronium. It has just undergone refurbishment but preserves its Gothic architecture and character from the medieval era. A real treat.

    • The Mausoleum was considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built between 353 and 350 BC to honor Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and Artemisia II. of Caria, who was both his wife and sister. No one is sure how much of Mausolus resides in the Mausoleum today as after his death Artemisia is said to have mixed his ashes in her daily drink.

    • The theater is another iconic gift from Bodrum's rich history. It consists of three different sections; a place for audience, a place for an orchestra and the stage. It became an open-air museum after the excavations in 1973.
