We’re in Week 5 of our online Junior Marine Biology program with amazing work sent in to us from kids all over the world. If home schooling your children has lost its shine, let Lawrence, Pip, Leanna and our team at Six Senses Laamu take some of the pressure off you. The feedback we’ve been receiving has been wonderful, and it hasn’t just been from kids.
Classes are pre-recorded so they can be taken any time. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t done the previous sessions, as each one is different so you can pick the topics that interest you. Who knew, for example, that the pristine white sand beaches at Six Senses Laamu are actually made from parrotfish poop? Or that manta rays “dance” because … well tune in to find out!
Particularly special is the recent remote underwater video footage captured in the waters around Laamu as well as the chance to meet a manta ray in virtual reality. The video works on your computer, tablet or smartphone, but we recommend a tablet or smartphone for the most immersive experience.
The first turtle nest of the year was laid early at Six Senses Laamu, and the hatchlings broke out into the world safe and sound on April 26. In partnership with the Olive Ridley Project, Six Senses Laamu ran a competition to guess the date and name a turtle.
Turtles will be the focus of Junior Marine Biology Week 6 on Monday May 18. Lawrence will also be doing a live online class for Indagare Global Classroom, which is free to join. It is aimed at families and involves an interactive Q&A session.
While we’re on the subject, if you’re looking for a perfect (contact free) gift idea for a loved one, why not adopt a wild sea turtle. Adoption bundles include a personalized adoption certificate, phone wallpaper, a pdf copy of “Marine Turtles of the Maldives” and email updates whenever your sea turtle is sighted for one year.
Talking of gentle giants, forget about “how to train your dragon”, the question that everyone wants to know at the moment is “how to wash your camel?” Thank you very much to Simon, our 90kg Experiences Manager and Humphrey, our 770kg North African Dromedary for showing us how it’s done at Six Senses Zighy Bay.
