Head to Earth Lab at our sister hotels Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell to get involved in our sustainable living journey.
Luxury hotels may conjure up images of opulence, but do you wonder how your hotel might be impacting the environment? We’ve long held the view that luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive, and this vision came to life again in 2018 when we launched our first two urban properties Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell, collectively known as Six Senses Singapore.
Both properties reside in protected heritage buildings and have received the Urban Redevelopment Authority Architectural Heritage Award in recognition of their commitment to authenticity and responsible preservation.
Now, while you’re staying at either of these urban escapes, you can see what we’re up to in terms of our sustainability initiatives and also be part of them. We’ve opened our first urban Earth Lab, an area where we communicate our activities, innovations and partnerships such as our zero waste and plastic free programs.
Our in-house experts are pioneers in waste to wealth, so why not tap into their expertise if you’d like some inspiration to know what to do with some of your unwanted items? For example, did you know you can turn fruit peel into hydrosol – which is a steamed distillation from a plant? This is a clear liquid that can then be used in refreshing face toners, air fresheners and multi-surface, chemical-free cleaning solutions.
We have offset 1616 tons of carbon dioxide by supporting a renewable energy project in China. For every ton of CO2 produced via our electricity consumption in Singapore, we help build windmills in China to provide the same amount of energy with zero global warming emissions. We also aim to set an example for our peers in the hotel industry to strive to be a carbon neutral hotel.
Six Senses Maxwell prides itself on its farm to table concept, growing 28 types of edible plants to promote local and organic dining and reduce our carbon footprint. In addition, our micro-salad idea enables our long-staying guests to grow their own greens to be used by the chefs in preparing and cooking their meals.
Six Senses Singapore works with a social enterprise called Clean The World Asia to recycle all the bars of soap that are used and left behind. They’re turned into good-as-new bars of soap for people in need and relief efforts in disaster-struck areas.
Six Senses Singapore also engages suppliers to redesign their packaging and reduce our total waste volume going into landfills.
