| Statement in response to the resignation of President Nasheed of the Maldives:
“There are no travel restrictions in place for the Maldives. International flights land on Hulhulé, the airport island, which is next to the capital of Malé where there have been some demonstrations in the last few days.
All Soneva and Six Senses guests are met directly off their flights by company representatives and transferred to our resorts by seaplane, domestic flight or boat. There is no need to for guests to go to Malé.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has also confirmed that it is completely safe to travel to the Maldives as usual but not to the capital itself. The safety and comfort of our guests and staff is, as always of paramount importance to Six Senses and the Soneva resorts.”
The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation – Statement 7th February 2012
The MMPRC wishes to reassure our industry colleagues that no resort, or tourist has been affected by this unusual event and that any-one intending to come to the Maldives on vacation can be reassured that their holiday will not be affected in any-way. The Maldives is unique for its one island one resort geography and guarantees that no guests should be part of any local political issues.
Dolphins swim and spin all along the seashell dappled shores of Six Senses Laamu, the only resort in Laamu Atoll, just five degrees north of the Equator. Snorkel in Laamu’s coral rich house reef among Oriental Sweetlips, parrotfish and even green turtles. Surf Yin Yang, one of the Maldives’ most famous waves, that breaks just offshore.
At six waterside and overwater lounges and restaurants, our resident mixologist whips up bespoke concoctions while chefs from East and West prepare wholesome recipes made with herbs, vegetables and fruits grown in the island’s organic garden. Take relaxing refuge in your unvarnished chic beachfront or overwater villa built of sustainable materials and spread generously around our palm fringed paradise found 45 minutes south by scheduled flight from Male International Airport. |
