I'm ashamed to say it's taken me almost a month to write this review which is in no way a reflection of the quality of the stay; my wife and I visited Six Senses Con Doa on the first leg of a 10 day trip to Vietnam in early April. We are big fans of the Six Senses brand, the properties always offer a combination of relaxed luxury, impeccable service and a respectful relationship with the communities and natural environment in which they are situated. Located on a protected archipelago just south of the Vietnamese mainland, Six Senses Con Doa sits on a magnificent two kilometre stretch of white sand beach, backed by lush mountains.

I have to admit that we were unlucky enough to visit during the onslaught of a highly unusual tropical storm, which lasted for much of our stay; in the end this simply served to highlight the quality of the service, accommodation, and particularly food provided at Con Doa. As I said we have visited a number of Six Senses properties and the food is always varied and excellent but Con Doa takes it to another level; from exquisite sushi buffets to an amazing lobster feast served at the chefs table, the dining was impeccable at every turn and helped make the changeable weather an insignificant inconvenience.

When the sun did shine, which it did, the villa provided a sleek, spacious, well equipped retreat with a private infinity pool overlooking the beach. The architectural style is unusually modern for Six Senses but as always the use of local materials and building techniques makes the property feel at one with the surrounding environment. We had a very attentive and thoughful butler who looked after us every step of the way and the spa offers amazing treatments and a beautiful setting. All in all the stay was a huge pleasure and we left relaxed happy and very full!! « less

Arriving at the tiny airport after a short 45 minute flight from Saigon,we were greeted by a lovely smiley girl who took us straight out to the car for the 10 minute transfer to the hotel. She was very informative about the hotel and the island in the short journey. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Lizzie who is one of the managers there. She introduced us to our Butler, Khuong and then he whisked us off to our room. We had a duplex villa with a great sea view. The bathroom was downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. Both were an extremely good size and there was not only a huge bath, but an outdoor shower. At the time we booked we were unable to get a beach villa, but one came available near the beginning of the stay so we moved into that after a couple of nights. Both of the villa's we had were the same configuration. The bedroom was extremely well equipped and the bathroom was too - the downside of the bathroom was that there was no air conditioning and the lighting was minimal which is not conducive to putting make up on on the evening! It is an unbelievably peaceful place, no road noise,no jet ski noise, no aircraft noise - just silence - apart from the sound of the sea lapping against the shore. There is a mile long stretch of pristinely beautiful white sandy beach right in front of the hotel and it was very unusual to see more than 4 people on it at any one time! It felt like our own private paradise. I have to disagree with an earlier reviewer who said the location was not as amazing as the Six Senses Samui - personally I think it's much better. There was an incredibly relaxed feel about the whole resort and all the staff were extremely helpful, particularly Khuong who always did his utmost to sort out any request we had. The food was utterly delicious and it was nice to have the Deli option where you could pick up a "takeaway" if that's what you fancied. The Spa staff were very good, but I felt that they could offer a wider range of treatments. There were a lot of activities offered on a daily basis some that you pay for and some free. It would be good if they offered some other options than Yoga (Pilates perhaps) in the morning. The island itself has an interesting history which is worth investigating while you are there though the town's main attraction, apart from the museum, is the market which sells everything from livestock, fruit, vegetables to household items and touristy souvenirs. The boutique at the hotel could offer some more interesting Vietnamese products as there is nowhere else to buy anything other than the town, which only has fairly tacky souvenirs.The island has national park status and if you are fit and up to climbing in the heat there are lots of treks that you can do. They also have Sea Turtles who come and lay their eggs there every year and if you get your timing right you can watch this spectacle. All in all If you are looking for a get away from it all, super relaxing holiday then I couldn't recommend this destination more highly - Six Senses Con Dao has got it all! « less
