An airco which makes a lot of noise, etc etc
The people who work at the hotel are nice but are not trained as it should be in such a hotel. Some people hardly understand English and the service sometimes remembers scenes from Fawlty Towers.
The location of the hotel is far away from evereything but ideal for people who are looking for absolute rest.
Last but not least, the hotel beach is really disappointing and is not nicer then a nice beach in France or in Spain.
Conclusion : I would not recommend this hotel for stays longer thank 2-3 days and price><quality is not ok! « less

After 4 days in Banyan tree we went in this hotel. Built in raw material in respect of the nature you could have the feeling to arrive in a property where they have ti refurbished some of the space.
But the reality is completely different ! As soon you arrive in your villa with pool in front of the ocean you feel like in a lodge in Namibia our South Africa. Great comfort, quiet, beautiful view and an amazing swimming pool where you could stay hours to look after the sunset after having observe the sunrise on the beach.
There is no AC in the restaurant but what a view with all the lights on the Bophut Bay and on Mae Nang.
I will definitely come back in a six senses resort.
May be a less aseptisized environment than in a luxury chain hotel but you feel so well in this resort. « less

I have just spent four wonderful nights at the Six Senses Samui over the May Holiday
It was just what I needed, a perfect place to relax and re-charge the batteries. I chose a Pool Villa which fore filled all it was required to do and some ……. Very comfortable mosquito net enclosed bed and everything else in obvious easy to reach places, air-con and a ceiling fan made the apartment cool and pleasant space with the bathroom and open area shower adding a touch of nature to the surroundings
The General Manager was extremely congenial and a gracious host with his team of associates providing very good service with a professional but friendly air
As for the breakfast which gave a little of everything you would expect but with a few highlights ; I personally enjoyed the spectacular views over the bay and the breezes that made the place perfect, the freshly made conserves, fresh juices and freshly baked breads gave me everything I needed to start another wonderful day « less

We arrived at Six Senses after two weeks of honeymooning around Thailand (this was not a backpack-type of trip -- we didn't rough it at all) and we finished it here for what we expected to be the "honeymoon" portion of the honeymoon (beaches and fruity drinks).

And, to be fair to the hotel, it is. There's a gigantic infinity pool. There's a private beach. Many of the private villas have their own pools, meaning the public locations are never substantially crowded.

That said, the little things always seemed to be off about our trip.

We got here early the day we were supposed to check in, and graciously the resort allowed us to rest and refresh in the second bedroom of the Presidential style villa. This is the kind of villa that you'd get if you had kids or two couples, as it's enormous. The second bedroom would have been enough for us to live in comfortably for the four days we were here. If you can rent it (villa 33 specifically) you should.

There were stunning, absolutely stunning, views. It was everything I dreamed of when I thought of a honeymoon destination.

And then we moved to our permanent villa (an Ocean view with a pool model). It was ... not bad. The view was nice. The place was clean, secluded and romantic.

But it wasn't the one we had just come from. And that's the thing we felt most often at Six Senses -- after staying at Four Seasons and Aman properties we had been spoiled with five star experiences and there were just too many things missing here that stood out.

The communal pool, with admittedly great views, didn't really have anything for people to do once they were there. There was no swim-up bar, no additional pool to make your way to. And for a place with 67 (or more) villas, there were only 12 or so lounge chairs directly next to the pool. A level up, you had more chairs (and the smoking section) but those views of the pool were blocked (though not of the ocean, which was gorgeous). Service at the pool area was decent, but fairly spotty in terms of frequency (water was free here).

Water in the villa was free and plentiful, but if you wanted water at dinner or lunch it was $3 (90 baht) a bottle. Breakfast is included (I think -- we went through a travel agent so that might have been an add-on he picked for us) but you should definitely take advantage of it; the food is plentiful and very nice.

Villas all come with air conditioning (though it is weak -- your room will never be "cold") and some with their own pool. I think it's worth the upgrade, but to each their own. In all villas, the bathroom/closet area is set off by bamboo doors but separates the air conditioned area (with solid walls) from the non-air conditioned area (with netting but no solid walls) so if you have the a/c cranked all the way up, each time you go to the bathroom you're going to have a 10-15(F) degree temperature change and most likely lose all of the cool air out into the jungle. In addition, the fans are so high in the ceiling that they aren't very effective at moving the air down at bed height.

Worst of all (and I'm using that term loosely, as it's as definitive of a first world problem as possible) but the grand windows opposite the bed open to let the nature in. That said, the wood border of the windows cuts horizontally right through the middle of the view when you're sitting on the bed and since there are so many bugs in the area, we never had the windows open.

There's a group van that goes to the popular towns on Samui, Fisherman's Village and Chawenga, each night which was offered to us by our butler, Anh, and unfailingly polite and upbeat person. She might be the nicest person I've ever met. But she didn't mention the van costs 300 baht each way per person, and you can rent a private car to take you anywhere you want to go for only 400 baht each way. We went home from Fisherman's village one night and were able to get a cab for 400, so it's not really a deal. If you can rent a car, and can drive on the "wrong" side of the road (sorry British readers), then that's a much better alternative financially.

Anh did however move us from the first villa we were in (post amazing villa experience) to another villa. In addition, they helped us find balm for my wife's plethora of mosquito bites (there are lots of them here, especially in the rainy/summer season) and arranged reservations at restaurants. They also helped us check in to our return flight (which you should do ahead of time because lines at the Samui airport are long for each flight).

Overall, this place is very nice, but for the money I would try other places on the island. « less

Having spent the last two weeks travelling around Thailand, including Bangkok and Chiang Mai, we knew we wanted the last destination of our trip to be something very special. Six Senses certainly seemed like the place when we booked it and it did a very good job of finishing off our fantastic holiday.

You get your own villa, and depending on the room style you've paid for, will get a great view of the ocean and feel pretty secluded thanks the surrounding trees. The upgraded villas will have their own pool but as this was way over our budget we stayed in a 'hideaway'. This was more than fine as the hotels infinity pool (with stunning panoramic views) is really large and thanks to the private pools in the other villas, it had hardly anyone in there all week.

The villas are comfortable, air-conditioned and spacious. They are made out of wood and the bathroom/shower area is kind of sheltered outside which actually works well. You feel very private when you are in the villa and we relaxed easily. Like most of Thailand, mosquitoes are present and a bit of a pain, but the hotel seems to do as much as possible to prevent them.

The staff are all very friendly and speak good English. You get assigned your own "butler" and ours had great local knowledge and advice. You can do yoga and pilates at no extra cost. Opt in for the breakfast as it is packed with options. Eating there is very much inline with the hotel cost, in otherwords, expensive. Its a little shock at first but then you realise just how cheap everywhere else can be. The best thing we did was hire a car for the week. Bikes are pretty dangerous to ride out there if you are a newby (plus the car had the air-con - big bonus!)
To get to the nearest village is going to cost you about £12 and £12 back - the taxi's there are expensive - so the car made allot of sense. Especially if you want to go out for lunch and dinner to avoid the hotel's pricey eateries.

If you look hard for faults, you will find a few, but not enough to tarnish this beautiful hotel and wonderful staff. If you want a modern hotel feel then maybe this place is not for you. If you are seeking a charming, rustic accommodation that offers something a bit unique to the other hotels on the island then I'd definitely recommend this place. « less
