Zighy is not the easiest place to get to but it is certainly worth it as you crest the mountain pass and look down onto the bay below. The resort parades its eco credentials and appear to genuinely try hard to do the right thing. They are even proud of their sewage treatment plant! The lay-out is excellent although the villas are rather packed in so if you have a noisy neighbour you are going to know about it. Service attentive and good. F & B certainly not cheap but generally high quality. We know enough about wine to spot the bargains and drank some very good value bottles, often next on the list to something inferior for twice the price.

We were a little confused by the restaurant options that were not well promoted but the main restaurant was fine although got very busy on some nights with people turned away and told to come back later! The restaurant up the mountain is fabulous. London plus prices but a real experience.

We had a double villa set back because we had family joining us but would normally go for beach front if possible. Family including baby drove from Abu Dhabi and there was an issue at the border that the hotel sorted out, and they were very good at dealing with our extra needs when the others arrived. The decor is a touch rustic but everything worked and no complaints about the amenities. Each villa has an allocated 'butler' who fixes everything and ours was outstanding.

We went on a snorkelling trip from the dive centre. This was good but we saw no more fish than off the left side of the Zighy Bay beach where there are plenty. But be warned, if it gets windy you will see little or nothing and there is quite a current. I got lucky on two days and swam round to the next bay and saw masses of fish. There are jellies from time to time so look out!

We also took a mountain hike and had tea with Mohammed the goat herd who has been living on the top of the mountain on his own for ages. This was an organised trip with a guide up steep mountain tracks, the hotel set it up with an outside organisation and just add a fat mark up for their trouble. Worth doing though for sure as the mountain scenery is spectacular.

As we have family in the region this is certainly a place we would go back to, although it is up there with the most expensive places we have ever been to. « less

My girlfriend and I had the luxury of stay at Zighy a few weeks back (End April/begin May) and could not have had a better time. We had a "standard" one bed villa but at Zighy the standard is far above the rest. Everything was taken care of from the time we arrived at the airport, were met as we came off the plane, escorted through immigration and out to our car without missing a beat. The overnight flight from London to Dubai was easy and you can be in Zighy for lunch the following day.

Villas-
The villa itself was absolutely spectacular - the beds incredibly comfortable, many different pillow choices, which for those you that are light sleepers like myself, this will be a serious bonus. Other highlights are the shower room with rainfall shower, MASSIVE bathtub and an amazing selection of in room dining. I would highly recommend the gnocchi. But of course the biggest highlight is having your own private freshwater pool to dip in whenever you feel so inclined. The other communal pools are great as well, but its unlikely that you'll spend much time at them because you won't want to leave the villa! And in theory you really wouldn't have to as anything you do not already have at the villa can be sorted by your butler. Thanks Julius!

Activities
We finished our PADI open water course and although it was our first time ever out on a real dive boat everyone made us feel very comfortable and safe. Plus, they keep the five start food coming and give a full 3 course lunch from the main restaurant on the boat. Very nice touch I have to say. We also watched a film on the beach which was really good fun, however be careful because the lounge chairs are so comfy there's a good chance you'll fall asleep. If you want something a little more thrilling I can't recommend the paragliding enough. It is the most incredible flying experience I've ever had. So peaceful and surreal you really do feel like a bird swooping over the mountains - it is as close to flying as you can possibly get. And if you're a little scared, don't be. You don't have "run off the side of a mountain" as you might think. The wind funnels perfectly up the mountain and you take a few short steps and the wind gently lifts you into the air. And if that's too cheesy for you, then just forget I wrote and go for the ride.

Food
Five star all around, breakfast is a standout with more choices than you could eat in a week, the king prawns at Summer House are a must do, as is a dinner at least one night at Sense on the Edge, the fine dining resto at the top of the mountain (its actually right next to where you take off from for the paragliding). I give these as MUST do's but really all the food is great, as you would expect from a resort of this caliber. The selection is also more than enough in each resto individually so with the combination of all 4 on sight you will never have to eat the same thing twice. Although once you have the prawns you probably will want them again.

Beach/pools/spa
Beautifully kept, white sand, and since it is private only for the Six Senses resort it feels like you almost have the whole thing to yourself. Beach lounge chairs are extremely comfortable and they always have plenty of fresh towels on hand in case one gets dirty or you spill an umbrella drink on it. Definitely check out the main freshwater pool and the saltwater pool at the other end of the resort at some point, but again, you will probably end up back at your villa enjoying the serenity and privacy of your own. We did not use the spa (too much time at the beach) but I did go to the gym which was well equipped and very clean.

All in all, yes it is pricey but you most definitely get what you pay for and it is worth every penny. A seriously special place that we will dream of returning to for many years to come. « less

My husband and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at Zighy Bay. Wow - this place is great! We have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing hotels and this is definitely up there!! We flew into Dubai airport and used the hotel transfer to get us to the hotel - I would recommend this as the drive gets a little tricky towards the end! When we entered the mountains and drove into Zighy Bay, the views really are fantastic.

Here are some comments on the hotel:

Location: Breathtaking - the mountains and beach are really beautiful. The resort is totally secluded so you really do feel as if you are getting away from everything. There is no real reason to leave the resort - e.g. no chance to do any local excursions so 5 days was enough for us. This definitely helped to make the stay more relaxed as there was no pressure to go and do anything! The hotel facilities are plentiful though - there are 2 swimming pools, a tennis court, an outdoor and an indoor gym and a programme of events should you wish to keep active. We went to yoga one morning which was lovely.

Food: You must visit 'Sense on the Edge' - it is a wonderful experience - the food, wine and setting were fabulous. We opted for the tasting menu which was yummy and the staff were very knowledgeable about the food and the wine. We had lunch most days at the Summer House which was also fantastic. Great food and always very tasty. The menu is the same everyday though. When making our way to the Summer House was a little too much effort(!!) we opted for lunch in our villa which allowed for different menu options and the privacy to dine in our swimwear!! The buffet at the Spice Market in the evening was ok but not as amazing as the other 2 restaurants. You need to check with your butler when the buffet nights are and when they move the dining to the beach - this is not well advertised. The breakfasts (served in the Spice Market) were good - lots of choice available. We encountered incredible service in all restaurants - the staff really are amazing.

Beach / pool areas: it is amazing to have your own private pool. The main pool is lovely too and always very quiet as I would imagine most people just use their own! The beach is a close walk from all the villas - we didn't upgrade to a beachfront villa and I'm actually glad we didn't as they are not as private as the other ones as people walk in front of your villa along the beach all day long!

Rooms: They are really lovely. Omani-rustic-chic, good fans and air con. Our villa attendant was so kind and attentive, everything was always spotlessly clean. The private pool and view from the villa is idyllic. The bed is very comfy and they offer a pillow menu with a wide range of different pillows on offer. Our room came with a sitting area/lounge with a TV and a desk area which was useful to relax in when it got v.hot outside! Wi-Fi is available in the room but encouraged not to use mobile phones in the restaurants which is nice. All rooms come with bicycles which is a nice touch and makes all areas of the hotel accessible regardless of where your villa is.

I would definitely recommend a trip to Zighy Bay - it is a fantastic experience and you wont be disappointed. « less
