Arriving at the Thimphu lodge is an experience in itself. With its grand design, lobby, and reflecting ponds reflecting a traditional palace, take a moment to wonder at the floor-to-ceiling windows, hand-carved panels from hemlock trees, whimsical hand-painted dragons, and washed stone painted with clouds. The 170-foot (52-meter) Buddha Dordenma on the hill opposite might also catch your eye.
