According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus, son of the Roman god of war, Mars. When a local King ordered Romulus, and his twin brother Remus, to be abandoned on the bank of the river Tiber, they survived thanks to a Lupa Capitolina or she-wolf, who provided shelter and milk for the youngsters.
Romans strongly identified with this mythical story and who are we to argue? In fact, you'll see our Aurelia the she-wolf in our guest rooms, with proceeds of every sale going to our Sustainability Fund. As for the stories below, they're based on facts not fiction. Ask your GEM for more information!
Along with the first rays of the spring sun, the Eternal City greets and treats you to blue skies and spring flowers, and it is usually warm enough to eat outside. With great weather for exploring the main tourist attractions and lighter crowds, you won’t be jostling for space at the Trevi Fountain or Colosseum.
As you take a well-earned pause from Rome’s busy streets, Sicilian-born Executive Chef Nadia Frisina will transport you to aromatic lemon gardens blessed with Etna’s rich volcanic soil and tangy tones of the Mediterranean sea.
The Eternal City’s magnificent landmarks and glorious works of art make it a not-to-be-missed destination. But what makes a genuine difference to your visit is the knowledge and expertise of a local guide to really bring these artifacts to life.
For much of its 3,000-year history, Rome has been home to power and influence, leaving behind an astonishing cultural heritage. These iconic treasures fill the city’s churches, galleries, and piazzas … not forgetting our own artworks, leading to a ‘Best in Show’ award by Hospitality Design magazine.
Who said that museums and mausoleums can’t be fun for children! Maybe they haven’t come across our tours, many of which combine with a game to engage and amuse little ones through interactive content and trivia.
