Six Senses Gangtey

Bhutan

Emotional hospitality in a playground for adventures: 9,678 feet (2,950 meters)

From Punakha, traveling east, the road passes through the village of Wangdue Phodrang and climbs past deep ravines with dizzying drops to the Phobijkha Valley. As you descend through the open valley past fields dotted with prayer flags and farms, you’ll arrive on the western slopes, where Six Senses Gangtey is strategically positioned to showcase a 180-degree view of the valley and all its beauty.

The quaint village of Gangtey is home to the 16th century Gangtey Goempa monastery, which is the venue for the celebrated Black-necked Crane Festival each November, and the lodge is a fantastic base for a host of day hikes, cultural encounters, spiritual experiences, and cycling adventures.

Pay a visit to Gangtey Village to explore the quaint shops of this one-street town and visit the 16th-century golden-topped Gangtey Goemba at the head of the valley. The monastery encompasses a school, meditation facilities and living quarters for its resident monks and is also home to the mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa, one of the region’s most important “treasure discoverers.”
