Inner compass

January 20, 2026 - Quiet the chatter in and around you as you discover spirituality in Bhutan and the Maldives the Six Senses way: easy, personal, playful, and – quite naturally – starting with you.

Meditation with a Lama in Bhutan

During your journey through Bhutan, you’ll notice monks chanting sacred mantras. Meditating and cultivating gratitude brings many benefits, both mental and physical. If you’re not sure where to start, why not start with the best?

A meditation practice can be incorporated into your daily activities by hanging colorful prayer flags on forest walks or hikes. To venture deeper, guided meditations can be arranged by local Buddhist monks in a variety of locations. At the start of your journey, the Prayer Pavilion at Six Senses Thimphu, situated among reflecting ponds, offers views of the valley, the nearby monasteries and the famous Buddha Dordenma statue. Before you depart for home, a morning meditation session at Six Senses Paro enables you to discover the healing benefits of breathwork, while a butter lamp lighting ceremony at the monastery next to the lodge offers deeper insights into how the light represents the wisdom of the awakened mind.

You’ll meet Meditation Master Khenpo Phuntsok Tashi, who was born in Eastern Bhutan and later studied under various enlightened masters both within and outside the Kingdom. His sense of humor and warm personality, which are in true Bhutanese style, endear him to his students and guest audiences. A prolific scholar, Khenpo has written numerous articles and books, as well as presented his research at several national and international academic and cultural forums.

He is a champion of Bhutan’s development policy of Gross National Happiness, finding it greatly congruent with Buddhist philosophy. He strongly believes that happiness is a positive mental state that results from the cultivation of contentment, non-violence and the never-ending wish to help others at all times.

Plan your journey with us for Six Nights or longer and we will take care of all the details for a bespoke “Khamsa” or “Royal Stroll” through the Kingdom. With a private guide, driver and vehicle, we’ll take you beyond the inspiring scenery and deep into the heart of each valley you explore. Come with us through the rich cultural heritage, local life, breathtaking scenery, and unique healing therapies, all wrapped up in warm-hearted hospitality.

Introducing The Soul Journal

Our new reflection book at Six Senses Kanuhura invites you to pay attention to the island and your own experience in a playful, light-hearted way.

It turns ordinary moments into opportunities to notice something new. You might take a mindful breath or smile at a thought that surprises you. The experience is simple and personal, with curiosity and care leading the way.

Reconnection starts quietly. You can set an intention, or see what comes, checking in with your body or simply observing your thoughts. No hula-hula, no deep analysis, just small acts that help you be fully present without pressure or expectation.

The journal also encourages connection beyond yourself. Being attentive to someone else when they speak can create moments of genuine exchange. Nature too becomes a companion. A barefoot walk on sand, tracing the sunrise, or breathing with the rhythm of the ocean draws attention to the world around you. Stay for three nights or longer with our Half Board offer and discover how connection can shape the life you return to.
