April 22, 2025 - Celebrate 55 years of Earth Day with our hands-on workshops. Drop a seed bomb, craft scrubs, join us for Loloma Hour: not only does sustainability spark joy while you’re with us, banishing plastic from your cupboards makes a difference at home too.
As part of our ongoing journey to Plastic Freedom, we celebrate Earth Day every day, with a commitment to reducing plastic and promoting sustainability. For us, this means involving our guests from the moment they arrive until long after they leave through engaging, eco-friendly experiences.
Join our creative workshops and learn how to craft homemade products including scrubs and soaps, herbal sachets, bamboo straws, and more. Not only will you be preserving the beauty of our planet, but you might also be inspired to declutter common plastic items from your bathroom and kitchen cupboards at home.
In the heart of the Eternal City, Six Senses Rome is an urban haven hiding an oasis on the roof: a thriving garden filled with fragrant plants, herbs, and flowers. Escape the busy streets to enjoy the calm with an aperitivo and delicious meal at NOTOS restaurant or harvest some aromatic terrace-grown seeds to turn into small “bombs”, which are held together with soil. These can be scattered in gardens or parks to grow new plants.
Or head to the Alchemy Bar to create a range of DIY beauty products to take home:
At Six Senses Samui, the sweeping panoramas of the Gulf of Thailand lull you into vacation mode from the moment you arrive. This sense of rejuvenation continues at the spa, where six treatment rooms, saunas, steam, and yoga and meditation salas wait to soothe you. All massages, treatments, and therapies use local ingredients in plastic-free containers. When you want to get crafty try your hand at a bamboo straw workshop.
Wellness and sustainability go hand in hand at Six Senses Con Dao, set in a protected national and marine park in Vietnam’s archipelago islands. When you can lure yourself from your lounger, head to our signature spa – a meditative, healing space where handwoven bamboo mirrors the curves of the surrounding water lilies.
Escape to your very own castaway island to fill you with wonder and fuel your wanderlust. Six Senses Laamu sits in a palm-fringed lagoon and is a flag bearer for sustainability. From crafting homemade kombucha served in recycled bottles and transforming leftovers into refreshing loose-leaf teas to protecting the marine life surrounding the atoll, the resort lives in harmony with its island home. On the tropical island of Malolo, Six Senses Fiji is introducing Loloma Hour, the world’s first happy hour dedicated to the environment. This inspirational initiative from Tourism Fiji launches on April 8. Be one of the first to participate by dedicating an hour of your stay to an immersive experience that supports and preserves Fiji’s vibrant culture and environment. How about choosing one of the following?
Giving back doesn’t stop there. Ravishek, our resort sustainability hero of the year, has made significant strides in reducing plastic waste across our supply chain. From eliminating plastic-wrapped bales to transitioning to sustainable carton packaging and committing to bulk ordering kitchen items, “It all helps us to drastically cut down on single-use plastic”, says Ravishek. “Most of our vegetables now arrive in eco-friendly cartons, which is healthier for planet and people. These sustainable alternatives, while small on their own, all add up to meaningful change. We encourage our guests to discover more on a Sustainability Tour where they can pick up tips on adopting more eco-friendly habits at home.”
Six Senses Fiji recently scooped awards in all four of its nomination categories during the 2025 ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards, including Gold for Spa Operator of the Year and Excellence in Food Tourism, and Silver for Environmental Sustainability and Luxury Accommodation (Under 50 Rooms). The awards recognize and celebrate excellence in Fiji's tourism sector among the best in the industry.
To mark Earth Day 2025, we’re also celebrating our recent Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) accreditation, following extensive audits that verified our sustainability planning, reduction of environmental impacts, preservation of cultural heritage, and support for local communities.
As Jeff Smith, Six Senses Vice President of Sustainability, shares, “Sustainability is ingrained in the Six Senses culture and has been from the very beginning in 1995. It is an important component of every decision we make – from the way we run our hotels, to how we design their architecture and interiors, the amenities and supplies found within them, and our pursuit for Plastic Freedom, through to the impact we have on the local communities and ecosystems, and the legacy we leave with guests.”
