June 10, 2025 - Wave a flipper at hawksbill and green sea turtles in the Maldives, Seychelles, Vietnam, and Oman, and discover how our resorts help these fascinating marine creatures to thrive.
By partnering with conservation experts, we enhance and support turtle habitats, monitor and improve hatching rates, and raise awareness in local communities, as well as offering fun activities for guests. While our resorts make a difference, we help you make a connection as you watch hatchlings take their first tentative steps to the ocean or bob along the seabed while snorkeling and diving.
Six Senses Laamu employs the Maldives’ first sea turtle rangers to monitor local nesting sites and run community programs. Green turtles nest on our beach every year, usually hatching between May and August. Witness the magic in action with our Maldives Turtle Hatching experience, led by the Olive Ridley Project, our on-site sea turtle NGO. Guest talks and marine research projects run all year.
Since 2018, our Let’s Get Cracking project, in collaboration with Con Dao National Park, has achieved an 82 percent hatching success rate, releasing over 30,000 turtles. Highlights include Blanche, a rare leucistic green turtle, and a nesting Olive Ridley, a threatened species, with 98 eggs laid on the beach. Join in the joy of watching this phenomenon first hand with our Turtle Hatchling Release experience.
The islands of the Seychelles are home to one of the five largest nesting populations of critically endangered hawksbills. We partner with the Olive Ridley Project to identify and gather data on hawksbill and green turtle populations, protect nests and monitor reproductive health, and raise awareness through community outreach. From October to February, you can join our Turtle Hatching in Seychelles experience and life under the water continues to delight all year round with snorkeling, diving and kayaking experiences to spot turtles, rays, and reef sharks whenever the ocean calls.
With over 40 dive sites in Lhaviyani Atoll, including Turtle Airport, this part of the Maldives offers frequent sightings of green and hawksbill turtles. Our partner NGO, Atoll Marine Center, conducts photo ID research and monitors nests at Six Senses Kanuhura and nearby islands. If a nest is preparing to hatch, sign up to receive a personal call from our Turtle Hatching team. Closer to our shores, snorkeling the diverse and healthy seagrass meadows will reveal blacktip reef sharks, turtles, and unique starfish and colorful sea anemones.
Surrounded by rich hard and soft coral reefs, the plankton-rich waters around Six Senses Zighy Bay host diverse marine life, which you can see during a Scuba Diving experience. Beyond the reef, after building relationships and raising awareness regarding sustainable fishing practices with local fishers, species caught in nets are now being safely released back into the ocean.
This is just one of the projects funded by the resort’s Sustainability Fund, a group-wide initiative where 0.5 of total hotel revenue coming from your bookings has been allocated to making a measurable, meaningful difference to our local communities, wildlife, and endangered species. Thank you for your continued support.
