Spice and gold

October 6, 2026 - In Grenada, the festive season comes with open-fire cooking and Caribbean rhythm. In Kyoto, The Yin Way retreat finds gold in the cracks and beauty in imperfection. Two detours worth taking.

  • A guest prepares calligraphy ink at a low table, with tea and teapot nearby, surrounded by minimalist art on white panels in a serene, well-lit room.
  • A wellness practitioner guides a singing bowl sound session in a tranquil wooden room, with a guest lying peacefully and eyes closed.
  • Guest enjoys a wellness treatment on a massage table in a calming room with large windows, natural wood floors, and views of lush, green gardens.
  • Guests participate in a tasting or workshop at a table, surrounded by natural wood shelves, glass jars, greenery, and curated wall art in a tranquil setting.

This year, the festive build-up begins with unexpected island spice in Grenada and time to find your way back to yourself in Kyoto.

Step into the spice garden

What if the holiday season smelled less like pine trees and more like nutmeg and sea salt? At Six Senses La Sagesse, it takes its cue from Grenada itself. Our festive events trade tinsel and tradition for evenings carried by Caribbean rhythms. Think barefoot dinners by the sea, with island spices cooking over open flames.

The Spice Route Journey celebrates Grenada’s spice heritage through aromatic curries and slow-cooked specialties. The evening spills onto the sand for Rum, Reggae & Ribs and a laid-back celebration with our community. Embers & Bloom celebrates elemental cooking and the relationship between fire and food. At the Alchemy Bar, local botanicals are crushed and mixed into spa products during an aromatic hands-on workshop. Sound healing and Yoga Nidra offer time to relax, while younger explorers can follow scavenger hunts and nature-inspired discoveries. Here, the festive spirit shows up just as happily in sand as in snow.

As December draws to a close, the island mood shifts again. New Year’s Eve brings celebration beneath the Caribbean sky, with one final taste of Grenada before 2027 begins. Sometimes the best tradition is escaping the ones you already know.

Gold before the rush

From December 11 to 14, The Yin Way – The Way of a Woman at Six Senses Kyoto begins before the festive rush, but its purpose reaches far beyond December.

Led by Hati S. Malinova, Integrative Health Expert and Wellness Projects Director at Six Senses, the wellness retreat uses Eastern healing and Japanese cultural practices to open a new conversation with your body and carry that knowledge into the year ahead.

Kintsugi, the art of repairing broken ceramics with gold lacquer, becomes more than a craft session. It offers a different way to look at aging and imperfection, revealing beauty in the places that carry history rather than hiding them away. Ikebana teaches the Japanese notion of “ma” through meditative, minimalist flower arranging. This is the intentional pause: the empty space between elements that gives each stem and leaf a chance to breathe. It’s a reminder that not every space needs to be filled. The retreat also includes qigong, Daoist meditation, spa treatments, and educational sessions on women’s health and hormonal balance. Evenings bring everyone together over relaxed communal dinners inspired by sekki, Japan’s twenty-four micro-seasons. Sleep is taken seriously too, with a wellness screening and sleep tracking supported by a room set-up designed for deeper rest.

For retreat leader Hati, the power of the gathering lies in those who attend. “The yin way is the feminine way. It’s about moving with your body instead of constantly pushing against it. We spend so much of our lives stretched and striving. Yin essence reminds us that there is healing power in yielding. By weaving together Japanese cultural traditions with holistic practices, the retreat creates a space where women at any stage of life can connect with themselves and each other.”
